I’ve struggled with weight most of my life. In middle and high school, fashion was not something that brought me joy. On the contrary, I actually feared fashion, especially bright colors. So every day I wore jeans and an oversized black sweatshirt. Instead of embracing my body, I tried my best to hide it out of shame.
Flash forward to college, and my boyfriend (now husband) was graduating. I wanted so badly to find a cute outfit that made me look beautiful and young. Of course, I actually was young, but you’d never have known it because, in my efforts to hide my body, I’d often dress in very dated and frumpy clothes. The problem was, my “apple” shaped figure (I carried a lot of weight in my stomach) made it very difficult to find anything stylish.
My mom and I spent hours going to store after store without success. I was at the point of giving up when we walked into this one particular store I’ll never forget. The sales associates went out of their way to learn about me, my fashion likes and dislikes. They spent a solid hour with me as I tried on different outfits. Best of all, they actually listened when I told them what I thought. In the end, they helped me find an outfit that made me feel gorgeous. It was the first time I wore red, white and a stripe pattern! I left the store feeling incredible, realizing fashion was not something I had to fear.
The experience left me with a passion for clothes and style. Equally important, it helped me understand the value of self-love and body positivity. From that point on, I knew I wanted to make other people feel the way I did when I walked out of that store.
This has ultimately led me to pursue my dream of opening my own boutique.
No matter what body shape or size you are, I want to help you find clothes that make you feel gorgeous and confident. I hope you will consider joining me in this never-ending journey of body acceptance and love.
